Third v second at Steyne Park saw Bembridge play host to Cowes Sports Reserves in midweek.

The young Yachtsmen suffered an early setback as DEXTER MALIN fired home from 20 or so yards within a minute of kick off and for a while after that Alex Harvey’s side looked rather stunned , but credit to them they fought their way back into the game and deservedly equalised in the 10th minute when skipper DARREN WILLIAMS fired across the home keeper into the bottom right corner of the Bembridge goal. Chris Elliott was forced off with a knock, replaced by Billy Pelosi. Scott McFarlane then saw his shot deflected for a corner before in the 19th minute a ball played into the feet of Darren Williams saw their centre back foul the Cowes forward just inside the area and Matt Sainsbury awarded the penalty. Unfortunately for the young Yachtsmen Darren Williams saw his spot kick saved by the feet of the home keeper. Their stopper was again in action on 24 minutes to block then gather from Darren Williams.  Bembridge’s number seven then fired goalwards but Owen Denness saved easily.  All square at the break. H-t 1 – 1

Tow minutes into the second half Darren Williams slid in at the right post but just could not stretch enough to touch home a Aedan Coode cross from the left and a defender just cleared the ball for a corner. Max Coshell took a quick free kick in the 55th minute but Scott McFarlane shot over the bar from distance. Tommy Jackson replaced Scott McFarlane in the 65th minute before Aidan Bryan came on for Harrison Dempsey on 76 minutes.. Darren Williams had a great chance in the 83rd minute but home keeper saved well to keep his side level before two minutes later Aedan Coode should have done better when through one on one only to chip the ball into their keepers hands. Owen Denness then saved one handed to deny a Bembridge substitute. Two minutes from time A Bembridge corner was fired goalwards and adjudged to have been handled by a Cowes defender and DEXTER MALIN kept his cool to fire past Owen Denness from 12 yards to earn the home side a fortunate three points and move them into second place behind Shanklin. The result was rather harsh on Alex Harvey’s side but the performance was quite good on a difficult pitch against a good Bembridge side.
