Match report: Bournemouth v Cowes Sports

MATCH OFFICIALS: Referee – ADAM HILLIER

Assistants – Craig Bourton + Steve Fall

For only the sixth time this season Cowes Sports were on their travels for a League fixture as they made their way to Bournemouth Poppies who sat just a point and a place above them in the table, so a game that could see the Yachtsmen gain their first points away from Westwood.

A brilliant start for the Islanders as the hosts gifted them the lead just six minutes into the match when SEAN LEADBETTER rolled the ball back to his keeper, unfortunately for the home side Jake Poynter completely missed his kick and the ball trickled into the goal. Bournemouth somewhat controversially got their way back into the game in the 22nd minute. Firstly the Assistant Referee awarded the home side a corner when the ball never went out of play and from the resulting kick he signalled to the Referee that the ball had crossed the goal line although Ed Hatt had made a great save. Ed being shown a yellow card for his protests. SEAN LEADBETTER was the home player credited with the ‘goal’. The Poppies continued to pressure the Cowes defence but they held firm to go in at the break all square.

H-t 1 – 1

Despite not playing to the best of their ability Cowes were looking good for a point from the game with Ed Hatt keeping the home side at bay, until the 88th minute when Cowes failed to clear the ball and it fell to substitute LOUIS COULSON who hit a sweet 20 yard volley into the top right hand corner of Ed Hatts goal to give the home side a late lead. Then, with the Yachtsmen pushing forward for an equaliser, another of the home sides substitutes made the game safe with a third goal on the break, CHARLIE GILBERT the scorer.

So once again Cowes Sports lose away from Westwood Park, but the most worrying part from this encounter was the fact that the Island side did not register a shot on goal. Lets hope our away days can improve.
