Match Report: Cowes Sports v Bashley

MATCH OFFICIALS:  Referee – TIM GODFRAY

Assistants – Jonathon Goodman + Eilidh Currie

Following the previous weeks home victory Cowes Sports were looking to complete back to back wins for only the second time this season as they welcomed New Forest side Bashley to Westwood Park.

One change from last weeks starting line up saw birthday boy Aidan Bryan replace the injured Charlie Allen.

Any thoughts of back to back wins went out of the window just four minutes into the game when a Bashley break down the Cowes left saw the ball crossed to the back post where CONNOR WHITELEY passed the ball into the net from close range to give the Foresters the early lead. Kabba Jack was then denied a second goal twice, the first by a good save from stopper Ed Hatt, then by an offside flag as Bashley threatened more goals. Cowes first effort did not come until the 34th minute when John McKie was put through, he looked to have lobbed the visiting keeper, but somehow the Bashley stopper managed to just get a hand to the ball to push it away from goal. A minute later and again John McKie was through on goal, this time though he pushed his shot wide of Mike Edgar’s left hand post. Bashley should have doubled their lead a couple of minutes before half time when a pass back to Ed Hatt saw the Cowes keeper give the ball to Kabba Jack just seven yards from goal although five yards to the left of the goal. The visiting forward rolled his effort wide of the right hand post much to the relief of the home side.

H-t 0 – 1

A half time substitution for the Yachtsmen saw Ewan Cranwell replace Harry Dye in midfield. However it was Bashley that went further ahead when CONNOR WHITELEY outwitted keeper Ed Hatt to send a twenty five yard free kick into the right corner of the Cowes goal after having a little look around the left side of the wall. Fin Phillips was sent on to replace Conor White on 55 minutes and looked quite lively for the home side, but again it was the visitors who increased their advantage and secure the points when KABBA JACK netted their third. Although Max Draper replaced Leigh Mackenzie with twenty minutes left SAM JACKSON completed the scoring for Bashley five minutes from time to complete a miserable afternoon for the Islanders.
