Another away day for the Yachtsmen as they travelled to bottom placed Andover New Street for their latest League fixture.
Manager Vic Sanders and his Assistant Steve Mumford were quickly learning the difficulties of Wessex League Management. From last weeks starting line up four players were unavailable for this trip, Ashley Brett, Callum Casson and James Wykes whilst Ben Gearing was replaced by the returning Ed Hatt. Also coming in were Jack Broomfield, Charlie Allen and 16 year old Jacob Jarvis. Ryan Gardner and Michael McEnery were the outfield subs along with Dave Thurman, g/k. For their part the home side had made two changes to the starting team from their previous game, a 2 – 0 win over Hamble Club, Jazz Beavis and Josh Wilson replaced by Lewis Alderman and Zach Neve.
the Island side got off to the perfect start as they took the lead with only four minutes on the clock when a free kick from the Cowes right was sung into the near post area and 16 year old JACOB JARVIS met the ball with a header that beat the home keeper George Baxter at his near post. Cowes continued on the front foot and Jez Conway fired wide from 8 yards. Gareth Bricknell was next to shoot for goal but his 22nd minute effort was pushed over the bar for a corner by the home No. 1. Andover New Street then had a one on one but despite beating keeper Ed Hatt their forwards strike came back off the crossbar before it was cleared. Gareth Bricknell then intercepted a back pass to go one on one with their keeper, but he shot straight at the home stopper who saved. John McKie then fires just over the bar in the 44th minute before Jez Conway released John McKie whose pace saw him past their defence but the home keeper saves well to keep his side in the game as Cowes led 1 – 0 at half time.
Early in the second half and the impressive Jacob Jarvis sent John McKie bearing down on goal. George Baxter raced out of his goal but the Cowes skipper rounded him too shoot goal wards, a defender done well to get back on the line but clearly handled the ball in clearing the danger, amazingly the match Officials did not see the incident and the ball was cleared. Another chance to John McKie sees their keeper get a touch on the ball sending it onto the bar then out for a corner. Michael McEnery replaced Sam Kirby before yet another chance for Cowes to extend their advantage went a begging as John McKie fired wide of goal. Ryan Garner replaced John McKie who pulled up with a hamstring problem. Both sides continued to create opportunities but neither could take them. Lat on in the game Callum Sweeney had a bit too much to say to the Referee who responded by showing him two yellows followed by red to complete a bad day for the home side and see the Yachtsmen gain another valuable away win that moves them up to fifth in the table.
