The young Yachtsmen played host to Winchester City Black at Westwood Park having lost 3 – 5 in the League Cup earlier in the season.
Cowes started brightly and a fifth minute long range effort by Jamie Trowbridge sailed over the visitors crossbar. A few minutes later and a Teddy Mumford free kick found Finley Kalakar but their keeper saved his header. Harry Symes played the ball out to Daniel Drudge on 13 minutes but his shot hit the side netting. Cowes were nearly caught on16 minutes when Winchester broke quickly but the final shot went wide of Sol Carson’s goal. The Cowes keeper was in action again on 29 minutes when a shot from distance was pushed onto the post rebounded back across the face of goal before being cleared. Ten minutes before the break the Island side took the lead. Jamie Trowbridge played the ball back to TEDDY MUMFORD who with the outside of his right foot sent a cross come shot that caught their keeper flat footed and found the top right corner of the goal. The first Mumford goal seen at Westwood for many a year. Four minutes later there was further joy for the home side as the lead was doubled. Skipper Cory Sanderson sent a through ball to JAMIE TROWBRIDGE who kept calm to send a left foot effort into the right side of the goal. Just before the break Teddy Mumford sent a free kick into the box that the keeper gathered with ease. H-t 2 – 0
Half time talk was to keep things tight for the first fifteen minutes of the second half and frustrate Winchester. However a 54th minute corner from the right saw their striker have a free header at goal to reduce the arrears. Cory Sanderson came close to a third for Cowes in the 56th minute but their keeper just managed to scramble across the goal to push the ball away for a corner. From the Cowes corner though Winchester won possession and broke at speed and their number nine scored his and their equaliser. Cowes regained a little composure but just on 74 minutes Rowenn Churchill mistimed a tackle that allowed their number 12 through with only Sol Carson to beat which he did to give his side the lead for the first time. With the home side tiring the visitors took advantage to add a fourth goal and seal the points.
