HATT KEEPS CLEAN SHEET 400TH APPEARANCE

SATURDAY 1st OCTOBER 2022

WESSEX FOOTBALL LEAGUE, PREMIER DIVISION

COWES SPORTS  0  v  0  PORTLAND UNITED

ATTENDANCE 123

Having won their previous two League games after a shaky start to the season, Portland United came to Westwood hoping to continue their revival and they brought with them, an impressive group of supporters, having endured a two hour coach trip from deepest Dorset.

Chances at both ends were few and far between until on the half-hour, the visitors should have broken the deadlock when a mix up in the Cowes defence gave a clear to chance Joel Hewitt, but he screwed his shot wide.

Ed Hatt, celebrating his 400th appearance for the Club, was then called upon to stop Portland gaining the advantage at the half-time break.

After the re-start Aedan Coode set up John McKie, who turned his marker, but he dragged his shot wide.

Cowes had a free-kick on the halfway line, but a Portland player stood in front of Jez Conway to block the ball and inexplicably, Jez was shown a yellow card.

Jimmy Mumford then broke away down the right wing and his cross was met by Aedan Coode, but a defender appeared from nowhere to block his goalbound shot.

Around the hour mark, Portland had two good chances but Ed Hatt was equal to both efforts.

Finally, with time running out, Ed Hatt again saved his side with another fantastic save and the game, which could have gone either way, ended goalless.
