The View from the Bar

Blimey! All things being well, I’ll actually be at the game tonight. So what’s been going on in my absence? Have I missed much?
Well, through the magic of modern communication, I have been able to keep a vague track on events. The last game I actually saw was the defeat to Horndean back in mid-October. Since then? Well, results haven’t exactly gone our way, but it was great to hear the news from Amesbury last week, and a point from our visit to Fleet on Saturday was a useful return too. And four points from six on the road – not a bad way to start for our new manager…
Yes, it’s not the first time I’ve written this in recent months, but it’s great to be able to welcome our new 1st Team manager to the Westwood hot-seat. There can’t be many more popular figures up here than Max Draper, and in recent months he’s done a fantastic job with the Reserves, so I think he’s more than deserving of a chance to take the reigns of the senior side. Good luck Max, we know you want to bring success here just as much as we’d like to see it!
The latest batch of match posters will be available tonight. Big thanks to former Cowes player Andy Glaysher who has stepped up and is now distributing posters around a sizeable area in Cowes. If you could help get a poster or two up around your locale, be it in a shop, pub, workplace, or even a front window, give me a shout tonight and I’ll sort you out. The publicity really does help, not only in bringing people through the gate, but also in generally raising the profile of the club. Getting people through the turnstiles is vitally important though, not least for the matchday income, but also in supporting the team through what’s turning out to be another challenging season. Our average is down a touch on last season, but we are still the 4th best-supported (in terms of numbers) team in the league, which is a remarkable testament to the loyalty of the Cowes crowd given our league position. Long may it continue (the attendances that is, not the league position…)
