MCKIE BRACE AS YACHTSMEN SEE OFF LAVERSTOCK

SATURDAY OCTOBER 4th 2022

WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

COWES SPORTS  2  v  1  LAVERSTOCK & FORD

ATTENDANCE 107

The visitors came out of the blocks from the first whistle and in the first minute a shot from the edge of the box came back off of Ed Hatt’s post.

Ed was the busier of the two keepers and had to make a couple of smart saves.

A long ball from Scott McFarlane gave John McKie an opportunity, but he shot wide from a narrow angle and the half ended goalless.

Early in the second half Laverstock were denied again by the post and then on the hour Conor White sent Eli Ahmed through, but his attempted lob over the keeper was not quite high enough.

Laverstock finally broke the deadlock in the sixty-sixth minute and the points appeared to be heading back across the Solent as the game went into added time, but John McKie had other ideas as he collected the ball inside the box and swept in an unlikely equaliser.

Then Scott McFarlane surged down the left wing and got in a superb cross which saw John McKie rise to head the ball over the keeper and in under the bar to steal the win at the death, sparking wild celebrations on and off the pitch.

This was a crucial victory and it lifted the Yachtsmen up into mid-table.
