YACHTSMEN PROGRESS IN FA VASE

SATURDAY OCTOBER 22nd 2022

ISUZU FA VASE 1st ROUND PROPER

RAYNERS LANE  1  v  2  COWES SPORTS

ATTENDANCE 72

The Yachtsmen travelled to Harrow to face Combined Counties Division 1 side, Rayners Lane and they came back from a half-time deficit to to clinch a place in the Second Round Proper.

Cowes started brightly, but the home side were comfortable on the ball, moving it around nicely on their 3G pitch and they took the lead on the half-hour, when their winger cut in from the left and fired home into the far corner.

Soon after the start of the second half, Harrison Catania was forced off to be replaced by Caleb Neale and on the hour a Jimmy Mumford cross found George Holmes inside the six-yard box, but his shot was well saved, then in the next minute Jimmy fed John McKie on the right of the penalty area and he buried his shot past the helpless keeper.

On seventy-eight minutes another ball, this time by Fin Phillips found John McKie in an identical position and again he fired into the net to put us ahead.

Rayners Lane made desperate efforts to retrieve the situation, but the defence stood firm.

It was a noisy trip back to the Island!

In Round 2, we travel to Wessex League Division 1 leaders New Milton Town on November 12th.
